April 17, Wash. Pass
« on: 04/18/11, 09:56 PM »

The stick at W.P. shows almost 11 feet of snow. Massive debris in all the slide chutes. The largest cornices I've seen here .Copper pk. has a giant devils horn on top.The fluting looks like Ak.. Powder on shaded wind protected N. slopes above 5000'. Easy styroporn skiing on sun effected aspects. The D.O.T. have two loaders at Silverstar Gate , which is as far as they have cleared. There is still sooooo much snow to come down .It was snowing with sun breaks but never heated up and I saw no slide activity.I skied solo till the end of my day when my friend S.D. arrived at the H.P. after skateing 7mi. up on his Heavy metal Tele gear. I cracked a cold one and we toasted the day under the glory of Liberty Bell. Maybe W.P. will be open by June? Just want to say hi to Freeskiguide , wish you were here!   X

Did you ski up from the east side?  Just wondering where you hit snow.  I biked from the west side the other day just to see how far in i'd have to bike and still hadn't hit snow a mile shy of the easy pass trailhead.

There is about 3' of snow at the Silver Star gate. Gate is closed , and clearing underway , so skiing up is an option. Be aware that D.O.T. crews  are working  M-Th and may halt your advance . Please respect there directive.   Thanks   ,   X
