April 16, Inn Pedererspitze, Madritschspitz

On Saturday we finally started the hut to hut trip as arrangements for the next 12 days were made. The morning greeted us again with blue sky and temperature below zero.

We went up towards the Madritschjoch enjoying the view towards the Königsspitze, Monte Zebru and Ortler. After a short ski down in nice corn we headed up towards the Inn Pedererspitze/P ta Peder di Dentro. We left the skis approx. 50 m above the Schöntaufjoch/P so del Beltovo and walked towards the summit. From here we could see the ski tracks going back to Sulden. But we had other plans. We headed back to ski the nice softened corn snow. We skied further down where we could hit the skin track up towards the Madritschspitz. We gained the summit from the south side almost to the very top.

The ski down the Madritschtal was great with corn slowly turning into slushy snow which was not too deep. We had a place to stay further down the valley a tried the huts we passed on the way down but had no luck. We reached the parking lot for the Enzian hut were the snow ended and 3 km pavement lay ahead of us.

In the end it was better to stay lower at the guest house as it was not less crowed as the huts with more space for everybody and splendid food. For the next day we could arrange a taxi getting us back to the snow. That's wherehad to say good-bye toe the others with a 8 hrs drive back home.

It was great to ski with you and I hope to be back in the Cascades some day. The forecast for this weeks is rising temperatures but no precipitation.
