The trip was mostly inbounds but I'll post about the back country part. In keeping with my "No Sweat-Low Adrenaline" approach to skiing the back country, we took the lift up Lost Trail Powder Mountain to get a taste of Montana powder. Skiing off the backside, we entered a burned over Lodge pole pine forest
Our goal was the nearest ridge on the right. Really loved the ski down on my Manaslu's
Upon reaching the ridge we stopped for lunch and my mandatory 45 min transition and decided to check out a snowfield further out. Big mistake. By the time we got there, I was pooped, it was getting late and the slope turned out to be a little sketchy. We skied down through thick trees and after a long day of 9+ miles and 3500' of climbing that had me spitting blood this is the best smile I could muster as we reach the groomer home after the ski area was closed.
If you like sunshine, untracked continental powder and $30 lift tickets, you can check out the full report here.
