March 14 2001 East PK Sunshine
« on: 03/16/11, 08:59 AM »

After a spending a long Sunday watching the Buddy Werner's race at Stevens Pass. Crowds and rain snow mix, and the odor of booze on every person on the chairlift. The positive side was that my girlfriends daughter took first in the slalom and second in the combined. Sorry, very proud of her. It was great to be back in touring mode. The three of us made tracks to the top of East Peak. 75% of the way we decided that the summit was not happening. Snow conditions and one whumpf of settling snow was our key to descend. The ski down was super. Sunshine and fluffy snow. Our run took us across the summer trail below Bullion Basin and into the meadow area. The temptation was to great to keep on going. Now I get a little hazy on the geographics of our path out. Southwest direction towards Gold Hills is my guess. Bushwhacking was done. One really diligent effort on my part to make sure no Kokanee beer had been stashed in one particular tree well. None was found to my displeasure. Again sorry for  not knowing the name of the ridge. It overlooks the base area above the old lift. We skinned up and skied out from there to the base.  Spring sunshine and great company. Something to be said about this Touring thing.
