2-20-11, Tom Dick Harry - Hood

After the high winds Saturday I thought the snow would be best lower on the mountain so toured up to Tom Dick Harry; Not so good.  The forecast said the sun would come out; never did.  The wind had its way with the place and almost all aspects were buffed out.  Found a bit of loose snow here and there in the trees but it was inconsistant.  Headed to Wallowa Huts on Wednesday.  Should be better there.

Top of the ridge


Toured up from the right along the ridge and around the bowl to the top of Tom Dick Harry Mountain.  Dropped into the trees on the left but the snow wasn't good there either.  Skied down through the backcountry of skibowl in more bad snow.  The bottom of gun sight was sticks and rocks so had to put the skins back on to get to the resort.  Had a great day however, 5 mile round trip, 2800 vertical feet, and home by 3:30.
