Conditions about as expected: started on bare ground at the Rock Mtn trailhead @ ~2,700' elev; patchy snow began at ~3,200'; ditched the running shoes for ski boots and donned skins at ~4,600'; snow cover was sufficient to cover most of the rocks above ~5,400'.
Skied a couple nice lines off/near the south summit ridge of Rock Mtn; generally nice snow on these lines (east and southeast aspects; variable ~6-to-12" of fresh over ~10" of consolidated October snow above 5,800'). The afternoon sun had melted much of the snow off the lower portion of the trail. No complaints about the weather: clear views from Baker to Rainier! Skied back down to ~4,600' (some fun rock/brush dodging on the trail below ~5,600'). Overall, a great day to be out!
