The skiing is pretty good right now and it's probably going to stay that way for a while (as long as those winds behave). I had some of the best turns of the season yesterday around Mt. Cashmere near Leavenworth. We found surprising stability considering the amounts of new snow and wind. We now have about 45 cms of soft snow over the last melt freeze crust at 6,500'. The weakness we were seeing down 40 cms is starting to settle out. Compression tests have become more resistant on this layer. We were also able to ski some steeper slopes and drop some cornices at treeline yesterday with no results.
By the way the cornices have grown to impressive size recently. Hope this thumbnail works. First time trying to add a picture to a trip report.
Ski conditions at Washington Pass are good as well. Larry was out yesterday and took a few photos. http://ncmountainguides.com/permalink.asp?id=624#624
Seems like a good week to call in sick.
