Uh well we need more snow. 3 weeks ago I hypothesized that Mt Hood Meadows would open within a week, this was a very poor hypothesis and, if you wish to believe, may have jinxed the entire PNW early season snowpack or maybe even the entire season's snowpack?
I met Ann and Andy at the Meadows gate. Though the gate was not closed we parked there anyway. We were all, I think, mutually astounded at the volume of snow that had melted in the past two weeks. By playing a variant of "connect the dots" we skinned from the base of the "Easy Rider" lift which is about 200vft above the parking lot to the ridge above the Cascade Express lift, we then hiked the ridge until 8100ft. We pretty much descended our ascent route. The snow was not too bad, it was mostly consolidated corn with occasional runnels and pits on the surface. The sky was overcast with high clouds all day but the weather never deteriorated. It was a fun day, though I hope Ullr comes thru by next weekend!
