Decided to hike and ski since we hadn't been to Granite yet this year. Went left up the SW ridge from where the trail crosses the avy chutes. Good skinning at first but then scoured ice on the W side and variable wind loaded rolls on the S side, no great choices. Someone came up while we were at the top, he crossed the avy chutes and came up the SE ridge and said it was good there. Stability seemed better than yesterday's reports, no releases on the crust. There were a lot of point releases, probably from the sun that came and went. It looked like the face had climax or near climax slides during the last cycle, it was pretty bare. We stayed just skiers left of the SW ridge on the way down and had mostly good turns. Heavy powder near the top, changing to a few inches of slush on crust as you near the gladed trees, then deep mush through the trees as you near the trail.

Nice day on the face of Granite Mt. despite weather being quite warm and soggy. Skinning up the SW rib was a workout!

I was the guy that came up the SE ridge. Nice meeting you guys at the top. The short runs into the north bowl were quite nice and snow stability was good. Skiing down from the end of the SE ridge was reasonable. Did start to get sluffy below 4,500 on the way down. For anyone that cares, continuous snow started about 3,600 ft so plan on carrying your skis for awhile.
Hi Scott,
It was nice to meet and chat with you. The north side looked good from above - will keep that in mind.
