Below 4k near the pass, pole penetration through soggy snow to ~2.5'. Newer snow above the soggy crust would occasionally move readily. A new variation on an old theme led into terrain where all upward options were threatened by wet slide hazard, so I turned tail and went to Alpy. Some of the wet slide debris was quite recent, perhaps from overnight.
Foggy in the afternoon at Alpental - friends reported fun skiing on 2 earlier in the day.
