At first I thought as looked at the Radar all day Saturday, "sweet the Puget Sound Convergence Zone is totally clocking on place and one place only: Mt. Pilchuck!" Later when big drifts of powder swept over the hood of my wee little subaru on Mt. Pilchuck RD, I should have said, "oh, time to go home!" But I didn't...I thought I could break trail in 14 of new up 6 miles of access road and then 3 more to the top. I didn't make it 5....and was treated with sweet turns back to my car on a 5 degree slope. NOT high on stoke. Started at 1012...topped out at 2815 feet...and I have to say that after over 6.5 miles of skinning it did not get deeper. in fact I'd guess only 20 inches, all of it fresh at 2800 feet.
If you can't get within a mile or two of the TH, forget it. And yet I always seem to forget this reality and try anyway. It would have been epic, if I had a sled.

You should have dug a pit upon leaving the car and before embarking thus determining the snowpack depth and consistency. ;)
Anyway..... I admire a good honest fail and the sharing thereof.
