Hiked from the Timberline parking lot to skin-able snow at the bottom of the Palmer chair. Just after the bottom of the Palmer chair we met two other skiers who had also skinned up. They directed us to a ribbon of snow, saving us from skinning the single run that connects the bottom of the Palmer snowfield to the lift. After skinning a short way above the upper lift, the skis went on the backpacks and we hiked over to the Zig Zag glacier.
In contrast to the busy ski area, we had to ourselves a few inches of unblemished new snow sitting in the sun over the length of the glacier. From here we started skinning again until we reached a rock band several hundred feet below Crater Rock. We had a very nice run down to the end of the snow then hiked back to Timberline and skied the remainder of the Palmer snowfield. After the bottom of the run we started walking back to the parking lot and came across another ribbon of snow that needed to be skied. This contained some of the slowest snow I have ever skied but it was still better than walking. This left us just above the paved maintenance road which we followed back down to the car.
