MadDog, JW an I arrived at Paradise about 9:00 to sunshine and CAVU weather for a daytime "geezer patrol". There were about a dozen or so cars in the main lot, two of which were sporting gliss tools of some form or another. None of us recognized any of the sliders so we just offered a nod and moved on.
We headed for a lower elevation spot that we hoped would still have perennial snow/ice under the 2 to 4 inches of freshies. Our bud, stefan, was on the Muir the day before in howling winds and he said it got scoured pretty good, thus we were seeking the leavings of that maelstrom.
Our efforts did not go unrewarded as found our solid rock free base under the freshies and had our way with it.
Here's a pic of MadDog topping out on our ski run. You regulars will most likely recognize the spot:

(btw, do any of you camera whizzes have any idea what's making my camera put out these pics that appear to be laced with hallucinogenic substances? Or should I just resign myself to the fact that I need to retire the old "coffee grinder"?)
JW will likely get around to putting up some images at some point & I have a feeling his will be of a little better quality.

hey Ron J and Gang:
glad to hear you found great snow. Cass and i were looking for ya -- we arrived at 9:30 am, a bit late as usual. with no sign of you guys, we decided to ascend from Paradise lot. our jaunt up the muir was nice, especially with great views of Helens . also, there was enough new snow to cover the wind-scoured crusties beneath, see...

Heya Ron J & gang! Too bad Kam & I missed you yesterday, but it was a great day indeed!...we may have been up at Paradise by 9:00 if the Kamster hadn't overslept his alarm, twice!

Ron --
I kinda like the creative photo effects you are into. If you get tired of it, dig around in your menu system until you find a setting named "posterize" and set it to off.
Either that or switch the white balance off the "acid" setting.

Thanks Jerry for another fun video, even though the "Willie" was shorter than normal, it was a very fun day, with perfect weather and new snow. It just doesn't get much better than that for October.

A nice touch on the editing from Jerry, and a steady hand on the hallucinogenic koolaid from Ron. Mad Dog, as always, models poise, presence and sophistication (this being family entertainment, I'm going to forgoe the obvious "willie" jokes).
So...how much vertical is currently available over there on the far side of the chocolate factory?

Shockingly far less than in years past. Just a line along the west edge of the former glacier. It used to be a sweet little stash with some respectable lines that you could count on into the fall. Now it would barely qualify for a midsummer competition with the Pinnacle Gl. (say 300 vf?). I'd guess a couple more long hot summers and all remnants of it will be gone  .

Excellent editing, JW. I especially like your use of an establishing shot so the audience can get an idea of where you are going, and your use of ambient sound. A decent sound track that adds information and sense of participation is sadly lackng from most ski "porn", including most of the professional ski vid.
