I was wondering how the cloud cover rises and falls. right now it is very foggy and the weather is looking to improve so the clouds are probably low, is this a good asumpion?

I dunno, but you might be able to look at webcams east of the crest, and if they are sunny (which they are right now), then the clouds aren't spilling over the crest, and so they are probably not "too high".

Yes, even though it was foggy and misty for a lot of today in the lowlands, the mountain web cams were looking pretty good (except Paradise when I checked). It looks like we are getting into a typical fall pattern of overcast/fog in the lowlands, but sunny and Ênice temps in the mountains, due to a strong inversion.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEATTLE WA
845 PM PDT THU SEP 23 2004

LIGHT PRES GRADIENTS AND A STRONG TEMPERATURE INVERSION THRU FRI NIGHT WILL GIVE AREAS OF LATE NIGHT AND MORNING FOG. You can also see this on the visible satellite. Go to

www.atmos.washington.edu/weather.html

click on weather loops, then the 1km Washington visible satellite. If you see clouds stacked up against the Cascades, but none in Eastern WA, it's a pretty safe bet they are low valley clouds. Some days you can even see the outlines of the river valleys snaking inland (the web server appears to be down now, but it should be running soon. If it doesn't work, try again later. There certainly other sites around with the satellite loop too, if you are impatient).
