Abandoned by the Seattle area group and my local copatriots, I decided to head for Baker solo. The drive up Artist Point was snow free, even with unseasonally low temperatures and abundant precipation on Saturday. It was looking like the mountain forecast was incorrect with lots of blue, clear skies and good visiability.
The snow depth was about 4-8 inches as I hiked out to several known snowfields along the Ptarmigan Ridge. After yo-yoing awhile about 2 miles from the car, I met one of that rare breed of skiers who downhill skis and carries his gear into the backcountry. We carried on to the Coleman Pinnacle where a sudden change in the weather also changed our plans of skiing on the Pinnacle's flanks.
After the wind, hail, and snow settled down, we were able to ski in that snow that Baker is famous for. Well, maybe not concrete, it wasn't that deep. I survived September, the cruelest month in the telemark year; the snow can only get better for our October turns.

Where is this?
First, thanks Bud. My computer skills are limited and I just couldn't get the URL right.
To view my humble collection of Baker shots go to Telemarktips.com; click on Tele Photos at top right corner; type in Telemon and click the Search button. You now have samples of July, August and September's turns. And yes, I do ski other mountains, but at this time of the year Baker is the only reasonablely close place with the white stuff that we crave.
