On Saturday I rallied a few of my friends to go hit the terrain below the North face of Chair Peak. Overall the snow conditions were very good. On the northern aspects, there was no evidence of slide activity today (some evidence of past slides on northeast aspects) and the powder skied well. The snow was of varying depth, but it was always thick enough to avoid hitting sharp bits. One note: there were a few people who were skiing the slopes below the East face on Chair, and then ended up triggering a small windslab. Word is that they took a long ride, but emerged relatively unscathed.
After taking a few laps, we considered touring across Snow Lake, but after assessing ice conditions we decided against it. As of right now, it seems like the lake is covered with a thin layer of ice, with 5-6" of slush underneath it. Considering the difficulty in swimming while wearing skis, it might be good to give it more time to freeze solid before crossing.
By the end of the day there was quite a large crowd on the terrain north of Chair, so the pow got a little cut up. The goods are probably still there for those who want to work for 'em, however.
