Gate opened at 10, we (motley crew assembled thanks to TAY Partners wanted forum) fiddled around at Paradise (did you see us on the webcam?) and headed up toward Muir around 1045.   Very calm day all the way, 8" fresh powder, foggy clouds came in on the way up to keep the snow from baking, then on the ski down they went away and gave us great turns under bluebird skies.   Wahoo, viva La Nina, bring it.

Oh yeah, great TAY gathering at the Copper Kitchen restuarant on the way home.   Good times were had by all (except maybe the other diners?)

I was also up there with some folks from the WSTC -- we were headed to ski the Paradise Gl toward Cowlitz rocks, but found wind slab on an ice layer on the E aspect of the Paradise, so opted to ski gentler slopes on the Paradise and Pebble Creek south to above McClure rock.  The snow on the Paradise was pure ego boot top powder.  We then dropped down from McClure to the Golden Gate and Edith creek throught thin, crusty coverage.  I picked up some new gouges in my rock skiis on this section, but no core shots.

Ran into Silas in parking lot -- he was mildy disappointed when I wouldn't join him in mooning Scottsman via the JVC webcam. Such a character. The Marionberry Pie at Copper creek cafe was a nice touch to a great day.

Didn't know you were heading up with Murray today Silas!  Nice...  Looks great.

I have seen Silas's ass before... OK as asses go but not that spectacular.  Too much downhill AT ski instruction for maximum gluteus maximas development. ;)
Looks like great conditions. Well played.

A spectacular day! My first ski outing this season and my first time replying to a TAY partners wanted ad. I hope it's a taste of things to come.

Great meeting all of you!

I hate you guys.

Eratta:  No slabs yesterday.  Just a lot (2ft) of nice new wind dep. pdwr on smooth ice w/ a poor bond.  Then a foot or less of nice rain melt/freeze snow over  finer grained (not rain affected) snow.
Aspect:
SE, 8kft

Rutschblock failure on the ice w/ a light step (3).

Yeah, we were whimps.  But we still are whimps, live ones.  I did not like a nearly1k run w/ the conditions we encountered.
So instead we stuck to mostly lower angled stuff well anchored w/ rocks (hidden), and further down, brush.

Anyone going up this coming Monday for a repeat?

Yeah, a totally great day to be a part of.  Many props to Murray on his ski strap belt.  Pics on picasa:

I think we successfully "unanchored" many of the rocks from the snow.  Or at least so my bases tell me.  Careful of the light snowpack out there still.  More snow coming next 3-4 days it appears.

Way to spend your free time!  Keep skiing while you can ;D

Let's get out sometime.

Now I am really kicking myself for missing this one.

Savegonder, I may be up for a Monday trip.

Incredible day on the hill.  It was great to put so many names and faces together.

Silas, I hope all your veteran's day wishes came true.

First post here. :) This was a great day on Rainier! No skins here, but we still had fun. Here's a little video that me and some friends made. http://vimeo.com/16811639
