The lure of recent snowfall and a sunny day were enough to cause Jan, her brother Jeff and I to abandon our good intentions for the day and head for the mountains. We were not disappointed when we arrived at Hurricane Ridge. Although there was evidence of the approaching storm swirling around the Bailey Range, there was enough sun to encourage us to head towards Hurricane Hill.

There had been a dusting of snow overnight, just enough to coat the trees and cause them to sparkle in intermittent sunshine. Although the snow was firm, skinning wasn't bad.

When we got to the base of the final climb to Hurricane Hill, we stopped and evaluated our options. The northerly facing slopes of the west fork of the Little River appeared to hold the best snow. We descended several hundred feet, carving turns, laughing and enjoying the day.

On our way back we crossed tracks with "runcle". It was good to finally meet you Doug, hope you had a good ski.

Lookin' good up there for the end of October!

Great to meet you all too. It was a glorious day up there especially for October turns!

I think you had the best of the weather and snow. Skiing in the flat light and crust was a real challenge on the descent!
