Ewwww . . . I'd love to go but I'm suppose to run the "Run Hit Wonder" that weekend along with 10,000 others. Maybe if I wait to register it'll be filled and I'll get to go to this instead :-).

I like the art work the invite Ron! Great stuff.
Makes me want to go buy a Speedo and paint my nose with Pink Zinc Oxcide.
How deep is the pond? One could envisage major shrinkage.

The shrinkage is a certainty even if you make it across without sinking, Joe.  The dual rooster tail of ice water up between your legs will ensure you have nothing to strut about under your speedo.
The pond's usually only about 3 or 4 ft deep at the deepest so there's not much risk of drowning (which is great, 'cause the lifeguards are usually incapacitated from rolling on the ground laughing).  Last year there was enough ice in it that no one even came close to sinking. You could walk across most of it on skis.
As for the art work, we have the great Jerry White to thank for that fine invitation.
We're thinking Tail Gate Party and BBQ afterwards at Reflection lakes parking.
Anybody else coming?

I am scheduled to lead a party of fearless Mountaineers on a ski excursion that day.  On the other hand, I notice that my trip has not yet been listed anyplace, so maybe no one will sign up.  Why would anyone want to go skiing in early August, anyway?  There's so much good programming available on network TV.

Is any special gear recommended for the Slush Cup?  A waterproof codpiece?  Neoprene gaiters?  Should I borrow Zap's snorkel?

I'll be there to provide some laughs.  I believe Jimjar will also show up to do the same.

As for gear: beer, towel, beer, change of cloths/shoes, and beer.

Mark - if anyone signs up for your mounties' trip, just bring them along.  Of course if the trip's not listed the risk of a sign-up seems remote.
As far as gear goes, the list snoslut mentioned seems useful.  Harkening back to Jerry and Randy's comments from last year you might also consider a really sturdy, fur or heavy pile lined jock strap.

BTW, what's a "codpiece"?

A google search will reveal more than any post-adolescent could ever wish to know about codpieces. Of particular interest in the present application would be illustrations of, for example, the "armored, or sausage-o'-steel codpiece" found at http://www.thehendricks.net/codpiece_history.htm.  A more scholarly exposition is found at http://www.r3.org/life/articles/codpiece.html.

There used to be a Slush Cup held at Mt. Baker Ski area on July 4th back in the '60s and '70s -- Most of the particpants avoided freezing by ingesting suffcient quanities of "anti-freeze".   Grin

Unfortunately I have family obligations and won't be able to make it, but the photos from last year make it look like a blast. I was skiing with my kids below the Paradise Glacier two days ago (7/22), though, and got a view of Castle-Pinnacle. It looked like continuous snow extends below the lake, perhaps on both sides of the little rock hump. Now if we can just get rid of this nasty hot weather!

let's see, the bladder holds about 5-gallons and one gallon of water weighs roughly 8.33 lbs (i think?), so the liquid alone will weigh around 41+ lbs.  the biggest pack i own right now is 50L in volume and the bladder won't fit.  i'll need to find something bigger to carry the bladder.  any suggestions?

Long time ago, in an age lost to the mists of time, we used to carry large and unwieldy objects by strapping them onto rigid aluminum frames with primitive suspensions attached.  Some of these even had shelves attached at the bottom, which would seem almost ideal for carrying a keg?oops, I mean a giant, rigid, pressurized hydration system?into the backcountry.

I once carried over a hundred pounds on a Kelty frame.  Uphill, too.  I was 16 at the time, strong as an ox and only marginally more intelligent.

Hope this helps inspire you.

Will do, Greg.
We're encouraging the males to go with the codpieces and the females to settle for bikinis; they're not exactly "old english" attire, but probably much more appropriate than some circa and gender equivalent attire, like, say, for instance, a chastity belt.
Just to get you all in the mood to get back on the snow I reposted a bunch of the shots from last year at
http://groups.msn.com/WildHeartsSkiing/pinnacleslushcup72703.msnw

Jerry are yours still posted anywhere?
