I thought I 'd post some information that may be useful for folks planning trips to the Cooper Spur area of Mt. Hood. My son is leaving for basic training next month so we decide a quick overnight trip to some snow prior to his wintering in New Jersey. We were denied a trip last Feb due to weather, so we revived our route. Up to Cooper Spur to watch the sunset and a night in the TJ cabin. I thought this may be helpful. A notice on the trail head and cabin door read: Closed on winter weekends. The cabin will be only open by reservations on weekends. Weekdays seem fair game. Overcrowding is the issue. I believe the Portland Snowshoe Club () will be taking reservations. Hope this helps ? I am gonna miss my favorite touring and ski partner. Thanks for the 17 great winters of fun. Pray that you get assigned to an icebreaker. It may be the only snow you see for 4 years. Good luck !
good info, Clawskinner. Thanks !! I send peace, tranquility and massive growth to your son for the next 4 years.
