Anyone else noticed how fine the seasons' chantrelle harvest has been?  Last two times it was like this, the ski seasons were fabulous.  The oldtimers in Cambridge, Id. are predicting a five strand winter (fences in cattle country have five strands of barbed wire..)

I'm predicting a great season.

Presumably thats a picture of you David!
Not only are your posts the most interesting EVAR but you are a handsome devil as well. ;D
I've been mountain bike riding at Banner Forest all season and the commercial mushroom pickers there have been carting out bags of them recently.
They taste good!
Hope you are right. ;)

I've been filling my bags in record time. They seem to have bloomed extra early with exceptional quantity and quality. It must be a omen.

Strange, up here I didn't get any chantrelles - however did fill the dehydrater with shaggy manes, corals and boletes. I think what this means is that we will get tons of snow, mainly falling between -10 and -15 degrees C. Oh, and sun during the day:)

4.5 pounds of yum for 5 minutes of work, maybe a new speed/yield record for me. The Pfifferlings are plentiful this season, something good is happening!

My wife keeps bringing home more 'shrooms and I'm beginning to think there is something to this. We haven't even bothered to hit up our real hot spots that are further out of town because she keeps finding new hot spots that were never 'hot' before. I've never bought a full season pass before but going on a hunch I went ahead and got the fusion pass last Friday. If nothing else this will get me some easy turns this fall. Last Friday was great on Palmer and it looks like I will get to ski it again on Saturday.

I'm still a believer but I'm starting to wonder about this winter. Even though it isn't deep yet I actually got to ski more regularly this fall and winter than ever before. Seems like we have a few weeks before we get to the meat of the winter so I won't give up hope yet. I've still got a stash of Chantrelles in the freezer.

Prediction is very difficult, especially when it's about the future.

RonJ poached my line and attributes that to Niels Bohr, my mothers great uncle, but it's always been mine..    ;)

Anyone found any early Chanterelles yet? There hasn't been any real precip in Oregon so I haven't bothered looking yet. It is getting close to that time of year and I wonder if it already is up high. Last year was excellent hunting and the snow pack turned out great too.

ha! the thread that won't die..  found a few locally but not up to worthwhile standards yet.  all about the rain, we believe, and there was only about 1.2 inches third week of August.  Last September we got over 5" early and that was the ticket - the general pattern then got some snow up high and gave us an early start even though it stalled for a while.

Was up in BC for a couple of weeks of kayaking the coast recently and even though the precip had been light the shroom bounty was quite solid - soils are shallow but am thinking the coastal fog and occasional drizzle make the difference.  Most meals we had chantrelles, mussels and salmon fixed up a variety of ways. Just behind the beach-head..:

I've got the feeling we'll have a steady season.

The Pfifferlings have been starting to pop in the central cascades the last few weeks. Soups have been extra delicious lately. I think the next good dose of rain might bring a fine bounty.

Nice nest!

We were suprised to find so many Kings last weekend in the Olympics around 6000 ft. especially since there has been so little precip. This next blast of rain should really bring on a good flush of chantrelles in the lowlands!

^Nice beverage to celebrate with. Yesterday it looked like Zig Zag glacier got a bit of a dusting. I poked around in the woods near Silverton on Saturday and I found 'shrooms in several 'not so hot' spots where I don't always expect them. We're all going to be buried in 'shrooms and snow in no time.

yeah, i know,  this is a pictures thread..   but two dinners worth picked last week on the north BC coast despite dry conditions.  dinner one was sauteed shroom, onion, leek and peppers in Vigo rice with fresh salmon.  dinner two was the pizza that left the building, portions of which are still on my tent..   life is good
