July 14 - Lassen, S. Face

the snow pack is 140% above avg. this season.  the parking area has a great pitch, but usually doesnt have snow - as the apsect is S to SE.  this season, this slope has 2 main lines. one is starting to meltout, with the other one probably lasting 1 more wk.  I've skied these for the past 2 wks. The run starts out w/ a gentle rollover turning into a 35-40 degree pitch. Normally, the slope is smooth dirt - and it has a "scar" from years past when hikers would poach this slope instead of desending the main trail. 
This year the CA Conservation Corps is doing extensive work on the Lassen Pk Trail, as part of the Park's "Reach the Peak" rehabilitation project. This mtn is truly a special place and its great that it is a Nat'l Park.
