Biked a snowfree road to mowich lake on saturday to get a look at the nw side. Conditions were great and alot of the lines look prime. Needed a mellow day out to get my legs back under me. Absolute solitude before the road opens. Heard a pack of coyotes howling in spray park and saw alot of animal tracks all over the glaciers.

Right on! So that pretty much means your idea of a mellow day is 8 miles biking, 14+ miles hiking, at least 5K gain (and probably more). Sound pretty mellow to me  ;D Looks like you picked a good day for it. Knapsack pass for approach, or main trail?

Yes...in and out thru knapsack pass. I'd bet they are going to open that road soon.

last week had the opening as today 7/2, but as of Tuesday "Tentatively scheduled to open July 9."

i called down there yesterday and the hard opening date/time is 7/9 at noon, due to road repairs.
