June 22, 2010, Silver Solstice (+1)/ Father's Day

My daughter was able to fit a Father's Day tour in her busy schedule today, and the weather and conditions did not disappoint.  Three of us parked at what appeared to be a trailhead for Silver Peak, much further up the road than I have ever driven, and hiked into the north woods.  Shortly after crossing the first creek we found, we were able to skin up the basin I usually ski down.  Unfortunately we found some steep hard snow with discontinuous sections and Jennie was getting hot spots on her heels, so we skinned a sunny open slope nearby for a couple runs with Eric then enjoyed a nice summer Father's Day picnic.

We skied out the usual north side way, and this time found lots of brush and little snow. We should have read Wolfs' June 19 report more carefully and studied the topo map, then we could have skied up and down on much more continuous snow.  Oh well, it was a beautiful day with perfect corn, suncups are forming and were soft today at noon.  A perfect gift.
