Fantastic conditions everywhere in SB today. Pinball, Braindamage, Sasquach, 2nd step, 3way. Had a fine young man announce he was going to do a back flip post 3way into Silver Basin. I think I said "make me proud". He did and aside from his helmet falling off and duffing the landing it was a great thing to witness. What an awesome day!

Thursday - What a great day!
A little sunshine, a little snow, a little fog. Cold snow, snow on the trees. Warmed up after lunch and then cooled.
Northway with deep snow!
My grandson on spring break skied like a demon. By the time we got to powderbowl it was getting a little fogged in.
All the fresh snow was groomed on the groomers... and fluffy off groom. Late in the day it wasn't quite so fluffy.
This is going to be good to the end of the season. So much snow so late in the season! Wow!
Cars down to lot C. Hardly anything in lower lot B.

Kyle, how many kings did you end up with? After 65 years of skiing, Tim Place visited Crystal for the first time today, and said he enjoyed it. North slopes off the King still had untracked lines left at day's end. The slate should be clean for Saturday's warriors.

In all I pulled off 14 laps off the Kings summit. According to some locals I tied the record .

That might explain the impact crater we came across out there today. Looked like someone did a human cannonball landing onto the slope. Made my ski cut across the top of that slope seem superfluous

In all I pulled off 14 laps off the Kings summit. According to some locals I tied the record . Sounds like April Fools is taking it's last bow for the evening If you did do it... That would tie the record! From the top of 6 to the true top of the King 14 was done by Tim the bartender at the Elk many moons ago. In fact, you should get extra credit...Amazing feat for a snowboarder, considering a skier can click in and traverse much faster than a board on that trail. Also, the trail had to have been somewhat crowded at times with slower pace hikers to pass, since South was all the rage today. If The South opened by 9:15 and you got the last chair at 3:30 that would be like 27 minutes a round trip including the chair ride. 6 minutes if 6 does not stop so that is 21 minute hike. The record ski/hike from the top of 6 to the top of the King is like 13 minutes, not round trip. I'm no math expert here so correct my quick numbers crunch. So chair ride 6 mins, hike 16 minutes, ski down to chair 5 mins, fiddle with snowboard straps and crap mins ...That would be hauling ass on a snowboard. It is a coincidence that you did this on April Fools? I'm calling you on it! Let's hear some collaborating stories! I can always apologize later if in fact it is true.

I heard reports of suncrust on sun exposed areas in the South, I assume that anything that got sun has a layer on it now on top of some low density snow. Also reports out south of hoar layers from the cold nights. Throw in the new snow, cold temps and wind looks like some potential for a big avy cycle. This storm cycle I assume will take a bit to settle the dangers compared to the one earlier this week. Let's see suncrust in most areas but shade, random hoar frost in shadowed areas.... Uhhhh....Trapped in the ski area with the masses. Oh well, could have other problems. Travel safe!

I can totally understand you being skeptical as it was a brutal project.
The chairs opened at 8:45 and I was halfway up Forest Queens by 9:00. The first 3 laps I used the upper gate to stay away from people traversing but after that I used the lower gate. I was fortunate that there was both no lines for 6 and that people were kindly moving for me and cheering me on as I jogged on flats and steadily climbed the upper portions. The only time I would rest was on chair 6 as I was too busy moving. Fortunately Jessie left me water at the bottom of 6 and I had a few GU shots in my pocket for lunch. The conditions on the King were perfect for fast laps and allowed for straight lining the lower aprons and getting creative on ridges and spines.
This was no April fools joke and as for beating the record good luck to the person who tries.

Well I take back cynicism Kyle, and apologize for doubting you! You da man!!! Amazing feat of hard work. I discussed this with a buddy in amazement, and he reminded me that Tim (the other record holder) had gone down for lunch at the Elk and gone out to finish up his laps. Don't know how he did that?
I think I'll try for my own personal record tomorrow so could everybody on chair 6 please allow me to move to the front. Thanks. How did that work out with the record crowds today?
