Today is February 19, right?

Headed up to Teanaway to see what we could find. The road is clear to the snow park turnaround, where it is blocked by a berm of snow. Coverage on the road beyond that point is thin. Not to mention, hard, crunchy, old and noisy for skinning.

We had the good fortune of several snowmos arriving at the same time as us, and they were more than happy to help us shave a few miles off the trip in, thus we willingly obliged. First time I've ever been up close and personal with one of those things and not hated it. :) Those guys were very nice, helpful in suggesting possible destinations and even advisory on avy conditions.

The trek in was fairly long and hampered by some ill fitting boots for one party member, unfortunately, but the sunshine, bluebird skies and amazing views were spectacular as we followed a ridge line to some "numbered peak on a map". Our senses were constantly on the alert for signs of instability, but none was really evident specifically where we were. Earl Peak though and at least one other of the same south-east facing aspect had crowns and debris. Our destination line was lightly treed and west facing. The snow was stable, corn-ish, carvable and made for an excellent 2500 vert of consistent turning before reaching the creekside traverse and luge-like skin track back to the car. All in all, snow coverage is disappointingly thin for this time of year, it really felt a lot like May (hence the title) but excellent turns are still out there and I was more than happy to partake once more.
Good adventure, Holly!  Way to explore - funny how everybody's already looking for, finding and talking about corn.  And nice, knowledgeable sledders?  Go figure.  8)
