Lindsey Vonn; State of the Art was created by ovrthhills
Eventhough seemingly removed from the disciplines of backcountry skiing, I couldn't help  but marvel at Lindsay Vonn's downhill run at Whistler yesterday.  I was reminded of the contribution "gate bashing" has made to the evolution of skiing from technique to technology.  Here's to all the racers who push the edge so that we can have a glimpse of what's possible.

Didja see her buddy Maria's slalom run today?  We can all make turns like that---if there are no gates, no clock, no ruts, no crowds, no pressure, no medals, no cameras....oops, I guess then it's not like that....

And here's to us, the Walter Mittys who dream of what's possible for ourselves
Our visions create the goals that make us buy the gear that create the profits that get invested that develop new tech that the pros use to excel that gets them sponsored that lets them further their potential that helps us believe in continuous self-improvement....I jus' love it!

Turns All Year is our Olympics.   The Art of the Heart is the State of the Art.
Thanks for the post, OTH.

I'm a big fan of Lindsay Vonn, but right now my hero is Petra Majdic, the Slovenian X-C skier who won a bronze medal after a fall in which she broke four ribs and punctured a lung. This required running FOUR races after her injury. She attended the medal ceremony in a wheelchair and didn't learn of the extent of her injuries until after winning the medal. Here are a couple of web links:

Just amazing.

We were at the Women's Downhill and watched Lindsay go by from Franz's Run. It was clear she held a tighter line and was carrying so much speed. Some one with access to the results via cell phone said she was in first by about a second and everyone sort of nodded.
