The MVP of this tour was skin wax, though at times even that didn't keep the snow from sticking to the bottoms (and tops) of our skis like sticky rice on a wooden spoon.

Tom Janisch, Ethan and I chose to have some fun on Peak 7550 above 8 Mile Lake.  Some skiers from the day previous had been nice enough to put in a skin track up our chosen drainage.  However, I wanted to explore a steepish couloir that cleaves the NE face of 7550.  Around 6,400' we started booting up the gully, which became progressively steeper until it finally cul-de-sac'd appx. 400' from the top at a 30' rock band, surmountable only with poons and axes. We felt it was good enough to ski from there, and were rewarded with an outstanding, sustained run back to the main east gully.

With extra energy to burn, we skinned up to the col that overlooks towards Mt. Stuart, and had an incredible run back to 8 Mile Lake.  You know the kind of powder I'm talking about...Where it feels like you become your skis and vice-versa.  It was very good, and excellent coverage back to 8 Mile Rd. made the tour all the more enjoyable.

Nice! Looks like a sweet line.

Tasty, thanks for sharing.  Love the reports from the east side.

Looks like you guys had some nice turns out near 8 mile!  That's a sweet looking line!

Very nice!! I take it Kyle and partner never caught up with you?

Even though we waxed heavily at the car, we had the same sticky issues as you.

Hi JW: What is the situation at Cannon Mtn? Thanks, N
