Not to be deterred, I crawled out of bed a bit earlier this time to try for a summit bid via the southern route of the Little Quilcene Trail. Steep switchbacks up the Dirty Face Ridge made for quick access but wet snow made skinning slow to the base of Townsend. Howling winds have scoured the southern face so turns were few and far between. Great views of Deception, Constance , Buckhorn, etc.

Those pics make it look like you should have brought the trail runners for the ridge! The Olympics do get there share of wind. I can't wait to get back over there...
