This is one of those annoying "be careful out there" public service announcements -- be careful out there!

We all know about Spring glide cracks -- they appear across slopes as the snowpack slips slowly downhill. This year we have had sporadic spring snowfalls that are bridging these glide cracks with thin veneers of crust, all of which soften in the day's sun.

We have seen many a ski drop into a thinly covered and invisible glide crack, at least one of which resulted in this hapless skier leaving one ski behind as he catapulted between trees, across a moat, and continued to roll 200 ft down a gully before gravity lost out to friction.

If you have to ski something you have not examined from the bellow, watch for cracks at the edges that may run across the hill, be sensitive to lines of discoloration across the slope, and keep the skis pointed down hill!
