Early morning tour up the Commonwealth and an attempt to reach the top of a chute off West Face of Kendall. We were stopped a couple hundred feet from the top due to ice patch we couldn't get past. Stability seemed good, and the conditions were actually decent higher up (or at least better than I expected). 4 or 5 inches of fluff on top of solid and smooth snow. The trees into Commonwealth were challenging.

Nice work -- that chute just stares at you from the highway.  Did you dig any pits on the way, or get anything to move with ski cuts?  I'm curious if all this rain has crushed down the buried surface hoar.

The 4" of new snow was sloughing, but nothing else moved. Looked like the rain had penetrated pretty far down and layers were bonding well.
