Skied up Rohr today.

Took the direct route up the ridge East of the normal Mariot/Rohr access.

Lots of facets and unsupported snow below the storm snow up the steep skin track.

Dug a pit at 1995m. Air temp - -1oC, S/SW slope, 11:20am.

HS-190cm
First 15 was light, lighter then Fist
Next 20cm was FIST
Next 10cm was facets 1mm
Next 20 4F
Next 15-20 saturated

Compression Test
CTM 15 at 40cm on Facet layer.

The moderate result we got was sudden planar. Presence of unsupported facet layer confirmed earlier downslope by skin tracks collapsing as we worked our way uphill. We passed on the steeper lines and meadowskipped down  around the ridge and down towards the lake and took the Marriot ski out out. Snow was ok, very wind packed, heavier as you got into the trees.

We some some evidence of natural slides, but nothing catastrophic.

Thanks for the report Lee. Thinking of heading up there soon... Good to have complete snow science in reports. Maybe you will start a good trend... And to answer the inevitable question...It's in BC and it's off the Duffey Lake Road.
