Headed out despite the forecast saying 100% snow, it turned out to be a lot better day, mostly sunny.

FSR 37 drivable to 3500 ft with 4x4 GMC Blazer with chains for the last 1000 vf (although someone was lucky to drive all the way to the traihead either on Saturday or Friday). Parked about 200 ft from the heart shaped switchback and slogged on 2 miles to TH.

Skinned up the trail (678) to the ridge and skied the first bowl. Perfect conditions.
Skied the trail down to 4800 ft, then walked down (the snow coverage was too thin) to TH and skied back to the car.

Great way to start the season!

Great photos and turns, thanks for sharing.

Very nice.  Way to get up there before the car access is completely blocked by snow.

Thanks guys. It was my best opening day ever.
My last two years were sunny forecast and we ended up skiing in rain, fog or both.
I think I am beginning to figure out how to read the weather forecast.  :)

great pictures, thanks for sharing! looks like it was a gorgeous day. and you missed the crowds at heather meadows.

think the road will still be drivable this friday?

I think you'd be lucky to drive to our parking spot.
The forecast for 3500 ft is for snow and snow and snow between now and Saturday:
