Nov. 9, Silver Basin
« on: 11/09/09, 04:48 PM »

Very high winds dampened our desire to get to the ridge, but glorious, first-of-the-year powder turns were had amidst the trees and (somewhat) sheltered from the breeze. Three laps in Silver Basin and one very lumpy run down CMAC etc to the base. The bottom 1k feet were very very thick. Not sure if it was raining or misting or possibly snowing, but there was 8" of lumpy concrete.

Higher up, we set off one small point-release slide while we were traversing across a rocky area. The top 2-4 inches slid from underneath my partner and ran about 150-200 feet. What slid was last night's new snow which was clearly wind-loaded and not well anchored to the rocks below.
