RustyKnees, Moscawulff and I met up at Paradise for a trip out to the secret stash on Mt Rainier, exact location I'm told will remain secret for all time. The hike was long and hot, but we were rewarded by fresh snow. At the top it had been blown into pockets deep enough for me to sink in to my waist. The slope, however, only had about two inches of fresh on top, but that's enough to make nice soft turns.
We left our shoes, skins, water, and everything else at the top, and skied down amongst much hooting and hollaring. Then we discovered the light fluffy stuff would fall away when we tried to boot up, leaving our boots sliding on blue ice. Turned out to be much more fun going down then up. Eventually we found some snow wet enough to let us climb, allowing us to return to our gear.
It was great snow for September... But after a quick swim, it was time for homebrew in the parking lot. A good day overall.

Nice work, lads. 1st photo looks like a father-and son-duo from the hair color!
Where was that puddle?---oops; to tell would be a Stash-crashin' hint.
Sounds as if we'll find something tomorrow.

Warning! Freshies in photo appear deeper than they are. ;D
It was over our boots, and more, in a couple of places, and still smeared across the brown slopes like a patchwork quilt, but our first view was a bit disheartening. Coulda shoulda woulda been there Tuesday.
First lap down: Skiers right ended with a lot of frozen rockfall peeking through the fresh. We angled over to the left. The left ended in scratchy ice. It took a couple of laps to figure out the middle was soft all the way to the bottom, and easy to boot up. There's a political reward for the moderates - stay in the middle, and life plays out pretty smooth. ;)
Great icy homebrewed smoked hefeweizen - I drank as many cups as I did laps - and my world went all soft and fuzzy from the sun, the exercise, the skiing and the company.
On the way home, Whittaker's Bunkhouse was having a huge gear fest with live music, $4 Brats and $3 Ale. I entered us in the raffle and... I won a new car! JK. In the morning we did score free "Climb for the Cure" shirts, but when we checked in at the raffle center on the way down, found out... I won a new car! JK - but I did win a nice RMI cap and Nalgene bottle. I'm still hoping for the new car... Thanks Lordhedgie and Moscawulff for a perfect day in the mountains.

That's the real art of ski photography. :)
