- with both Rainier & Shasta being stratovolcanes, Wikipedia states that, "Shasta has an estimated volume of 108 cubic miles, making it the most voluminous stratovolcano in the Cascades". They're pretty close in elevation with #'s of 14,411 and 14,179. It says that Rainier is the most prominent in the U.S. I didn't see Rainiers' volume.
    It's always hard to consider that Mt Whitney beats the other 14-ers, as the tallest 14-er in the lower 48. The most recent geodetic survey (Apr. '08) lists it as 14,505 ft. The previous elev. was 14,496 ft.
