Jill and I originally planned to tour in the Blackcomb backcountry on the 27th but dense clouds and whiteout conditions kept us in the frontcountry.
On the 28th, we had blue skies with unlimited visibility. Once off the Peak chair, we traversed out the Burnt Stew trail below Picollo and watched the first wave of skiers descend the north face of Picollo. With temperatures predicted to rise, we headed for Flute and the numerous steep faces, bowls and nearby tree runs. It was boot deep powder early and continued to stay cool and soft as long as we skied the north and northwest lines. We originally planned to tour out to Cowboy Ridge but the conditions and lack of skiers kept us on the slopes of Lesser Flute. It was quiet and relaxing sitting on the sundrenched and deserted summit and looking over towards the masses only a short distance away in the ski area. When we returned to the ski area, the snow had begun to warm as we descended the 5,000 vertical. By the time we arrived at the village, the mush was a foot deep and bare spots were sprouting. Could be the last week to ski to the base and downloading will be a safer option.

Sounds like a fun tour.
Seems like you'll have to head back south, soon, however.

Your correct Ron. It's time to head south to OR and CA for awhile. Plan to stop at Shasta, Lake Tahoe area(Carson Pass) then for some spring skiing along the eastern Sierras.
