July 3, 2009, Sunrise Third Burroughs

Snowtroll, Kristie and I opted for some exploration around Sunrise for our July turns.  The Sourdough Chutes are completely gone and we realized we would need to stretch our legs quite a bit to get some quality turns in.  Inspired by Robie's report and the siren calling tracks on third burroughs we set our sights there.  The views along the hike were stunning - what was wanting in snow was made up in scenery.  We followed the tracks from last week down the north face of third burroughs into berkeley park.  The snow is still holding but melting out quickly- we were able to get about 1500 ft with a couple of short carries.  A bit more time spent on our feet as opposed to boards/skis (8-9 miles hiking), but on such a glorious day - the joy-o-meter was stuck at 100%.
