I just talked to Katerine at the Carbon River Ranger Station. She informed me that the Mowich Road is NOT opening tomorrow. She said they are not going to start working on the road until Monday, July 6.

She said she will talk to the appropriate person about up dating the website.

new post on MRNP website re mowich road:

"Scheduled to open in early July, conditions permitting. Currently open to the Paul Peak trailhead. Call 360-829-9639 for status."

That's the word if you haven't heard.

The road is in great shape and the gate at Paul Peak TH (5.5 miles short of the lake) is scheduled to open for the season tonight.  There is a couple of feet of snow at the lake and much of the trail up Knapsack is intermittently buried.  The coverage looks to be much the same as this time last year with patchy snow through out Spray Park.  (You can currently link patches with only a few carries)

Upper SP and the Flett Headwall


The Russell Glacier is in fine shape with just a few easily avoidable cracks opening up.  The skiers right side of the RG looks like a great run right now from top to bottom (~9.5K-6.5K)

I called the park this morning and they said all roads in the park are now open.

Human (volunteer-sounding) answered MRNP info phone @ 3 PM: they had no data it was definitely open and thought that meant no...
