May 30, 2009, Chair Peak

Dave M and I had a very nice trip up and down Chair Peak Saturday.  We had low expectations (bottomless much, instability), but they were far exceeded.

From Source Lake, we skinned the bottom third, switched to bootpack for the middle, and back to skins once we were in the upper  bowl.  The surface was about 3 inches of mush over a reasonably consolidated base, and skinning was OK.

We stopped about 200 feet below the top of the upper bowl since it was getting warmer and a bit mushier.  We did set off some hissers in the steeper part of the upper bowl, but nothing very concerning. 

The ski down was the best I've had in the last 4 weekends in the Alpental area.  Plenty buttery and not too grabby.
