Got to Yellowstone road of exit 53 around noon.  Skinned through woods and pretty much up the ridge (a few zig zags here and there)  About six inches of new snow that was pretty good.  Bellow 4000ft the base snow was pretty mushy and I wasn't sure getting onto the steeper slopes above was a hot idea.  But above 4000ft the base firmed up and the new seemed reasonably well attached.   From the top of the knob I skied off the backside (east) on nice snow.  The last few turns before hitting the road, I was sinking into the mushy base.  Skinned back up the road to the ridge and followed my ski track partway back up to the knob (4400ft, last flat spot before the knob) and then skied the west slope -- which was also pretty good until about 3800ft -- where the base just mushed out and felt a little like water skiing.
