May 23, 2009, WA Pass First Timers

Long time listener, first time caller.  Saturday found MD2020 and the usual gang along with my son Sam and myself at WA pass to follow the many around the Birthday Tour.  A not so early start (8am?) still offered what we in the midwest would call "boilerplate" or maybe frozen granular up to the first col.  Ah, but we all knew this was not to last as the sun was on full high beam.  Reaching the col and heading down the Ave was pure bliss.  Views, sun, carving was all at hand only limited to exhaustion and wanting to stop to enjoy it even more.  At least that was my excuse.  The climb to the next col, I'm sure there's a name that escapes me, was hot and slushy.  You can guess what the ride down to the hairpin would be.  The entrance was exciting, the rest was really deep slush.  Great group, wonderful views and long memories for myself and Sam.
