Tried to ski snow king yesterday.  Approach way longer than anticipated, road washed out at 1200 feet within view of the cascade river.  Continuous snow started around 4,000 feet.  We got to the first highpoint on the ridge, still about 3 miles from the summit.  It was still fairly early, and most aspects were bottomless mush.  While taking a break, we saw a huge slide, probably 1/4 mile wide and pretty deep (it was across the valley, about 2 miles away and we could clearly see the crown) on a similar aspect to the snowfield on snowking.  We were already weary of conditions, so, we turned around and went home!

Such a beautiful area but you earn your stripes accessing it no matter what the season. Nice attempt, though!

Too bad, but glad you made it out OK to make another attempt.

You made it further than our February attempt... got to the Cascade River Rd and my partner realized they didn't have their skins  ::)

someday

Snowking is a gorgeous mountain. Its sad that everything is melting away and we couldn't make it! Next time indeed...
