The weather forecast indicated it was time to head south to the Dolomites, and why not go for the biggest one?   A beautiful drive through "Washington Pass on steroids" brought us to Arabba, which we thought was right under the Marmolada, but the tourist office informed us we were still 1.5 hours drive away.  On to Rocca Pietore, where we found a nice mom and pop three star hotel, then headed up to check out tomorrow's tour.  In season, Marmolada appears to be a great lift area offering 4600' of vertical.

Back at the hotel we watched the weather get better and better, Eric and Lisa arrived, and we had an excellent home cooked birthday dinner, complete with cake.  Next morning we loaded up with sk crampons and wind gear for the forecast 20mph summit breeze.  At 9AM the two person stand up skilift, vintage 1948, began loading and gave us 2000' vertical for six bucks.  We were happy to find a nice track in boot top powder to the top, where the weather was calm and blue!

We celebrated another birthday, first as some local Italian girls serenaded the honoree, and then in the untracked powder.  Another day of great weather, great conditions, and great company.
Thats some funky lift!

Sounds cool.
What was the name of the pass?
And did you get a look down the back side of the Marmolata?  The south face is the biggest rock wall in the Dolomites.
