May 3, 2009, Grosser Jaufen (Dolomites)

After the long drive from Courmayeur to Innsbruck on Saturday, the opportunity to ski some corn down south was appealing.  Local knowledge helped Alfred get us to the trailhead in only an hour and a half, quite a ways for a day tour by Euro standards.  Our goal was Seekofel, but some confusion in the rolling hills on the approach wasted too much sun time, so we headed for a lower peak, Grosser Jaufen, instead, reaching the summit at high noon.   The corn was excellent, as were the views of the Dolomites, experiencing their biggest snow year in the past 35.

Interestingly, Alfred's friends who joined us from Munich and I have Seattle friends in common.  It's a small world after all!
