Had only a short day so I headed somewhere close. Snow blocked the road at 2280'. No consistent snow until the lower TH, then hiking still needed. Could not connect the road to the upper trails through the woods on skins.
Snow conditions were BAD: icy with multi-boot tracks and a frozen glissade trough. I used crampons through the chute to the summit, and had little joy carving on steep icy snow in the fog.
Vigorous workout for a "short" trip. Good practice for something, I guess.

yup- good practice for the long hikes with skis on and off the feet imost of the way into really cool places
