As a sort of farewell to Crystal Mountain Dan and I made a predawn tour out to Smoka Peak (I was told that was its name by Mark Allen 4 years ago).
Dan hiking up to Box car with 3 way peak in the distance
Smoka peak with Rainier in the distance
Conditions varied throughout the day ranging from Bullet proof to typical cascade Mank. Our first run was a west facing slope which delivered 2 inches of pow on top of Ice which was much more enjoyable then expected. After that smoka was a few inches of windblown on NE angles then 1 inch of softened Ice on the way down. By the time we got into the North facing stuff around 11 and it was mush for the rest of the day.
We cut a cornice on smoka to test stability, nothing moved
Good bye Crystal you delivered some epic conditions in March and a big Thanks to the ski patrol for getting the goods open day after day.
