March 14, 2009, Tatoosh

After a late start Brenda and I arrived at Narada Falls around 11:00. Probably better that way as the snow hadn't started dumping until 7:00 am or so, and I knew there be a crust on many aspects. There were only a few groups in the area, including a group of volunteers who had put a skin track to the top of Castle saddle. That was much appreciated. Snowing and blowing up high, but everthing skied wonderfully. About 8" on new covered any crust by afternoon, but north aspects had no crust. Lots of sluffing of new snow but no slabs. Flat light was definitely an issue up high.  We did a run down into the basin above Louise Lake then climbed back to Castle saddle for another run out. Narada Face skied pretty well with the days new covering the crust.

We stayed in Ashford that night thinking maybe they'd open the gate Sunday. No luck. Morning's recording estimated 1:00 PM. We hightailed it out of there and arrived at Snoqualmie at 11:00 am. Bought a nordic pass and hopped on Silver Fir lift. Got to Radio Tower hill behind a couple other groups who thankfully had put in a skin track. Tough skiing for us in the deep, unsettled, heavy, but still a great day.
