So I finally bought a splitboard today and took it up to Mt. Herman (Mt. Baker sort-of-backcountry). I skinned ( !) up to the eastern spur (a ways below and east of the actual summit). Visibility sucked, but could have been worse. I boarded down on E to SE slopes up to 40 degrees or so. There were some slide paths from shallow sluff. The snow was heavy and actually pretty deep. Heavy wet powder higher up and mashed potatoes below. I saw some other skiers but I don't think they saw me. Other than that the BC was pretty much deserted, as one would expect on a Thursday with less than ideal snow.
