It's kind of a slog into and out of the Unicorn area in winter, but the weather, views, and quality snow made this a really fun day in the mountains for snoslut and myself. While the area around Reflection Lakes is heavily traveled by campers, snow shoers, boy scouts, and of course skiers, we felt like we were in the wilderness up above Snow Lake.
Skinning into the lower basin we couldn't help but notice a huge crown on the eastern slopes up above the cliffs, probably triggered by cornice fall sometime since the last snows.
Looking at the debris, it seemed that some pieces of the slab launched over the cliffs intact!
As we ascended the shaded basin, we could tell right off the bat that the riding would be decent as long as we avoided the sun. We put in a silly skin track with micro-switchbacks up the chute accessing the alpine since booting would have been a thigh deep wallow-fest and wasn't an option. The chute was loaded and moderately steep so we assessed it's stability as we went. There were a few tense moments and variable spots of small windslab, but nothing of concern (at least to us).

There was nice wind-afected pow up high which was good for going fast.

No pow on the sides of the chute. (I asked snoslut to go over there for a pic).

Pow in the center.

And out.

Yee Haw!
